Chairman’s Award For 4th Painting & Photography Contest Within the context of its all- year-round cultural and social activities, KNPC organized on 5-7/8/2008 the Chairman’s Award for 4th Painting & Photography Contest and Exhibition at the Head Office. More than 56 employees participated in the exhibition showing about 150 works of art ranging between painting and photography. The exhibition was opened by Mr. Farouk Al-Zanki, Chairman & M.D who had a tour in the place with the DMDs Mr. Asaad Al-Saad, Mr. Fahad Fahad Al-Ajmi, Mr. Bakhit Al-Rashidi and Mr. Mohammed Ghazi Al-Mutairi.Mr. Farouk Al-Zanki expressed his appreciation of the high quality of the artworks, commending the special style of presentation and coordination. At the end of his tour, he awarded the contest winners prizes and recognition certificates.On his part, Mr. Asaad Al-Saad, Deputy Chairman & DMD- MAA expressed his happiness over the great response from KNPC employees to this contest and the high level of the participants who are very close to professionals. At the end of his speech, he thanked the Kuwait Art Association on its participation in evaluating the exhibition paintings in order to select the winning works.
Mr. Mohammed Ghazi Al-Mutairi, DMD- MAB was also very proud of this exhibition and regarded it as a great opportunity to show the talented people among the company employees and their families. He also praised this initiative , congratulated all winners and wished all the best of luck in the following contests.Commenting on the exhibition, Mr. Mohammed Mansour Al-Ajmi, Manager, Corporate Communication Dept., said that KNPC is always interested in organizing the activities which enhance communication among the company employees and their families, which is reflected on their performance inside and outside workplace. Knetco Celebrates First Anniversary of KNPC Contract Knetco Company hold a celebration to mark the first anniversary of its communications services contract with KNPC. The celebration was held on 23/7/2008 at Al-Manshar Rotana Hotel - Al-Fahaheel and was attended by Mr. Khaled Al-Asousi, Manager, Information Technology Dept., and a number of work leaders at the department, in addition to a large crowd of Knetco Company Officials and employees.The gala started with a speech by Mr. Mahdi Bou Alian, the contract manager - Knetco who welcomed the attendees adding that his company is trying even harder to enhance the cooperation with KNPC. He also gave a brief presentation on the founding and developments stages of Knetco Company up to the present time.On this occasion Mr. Khaled Al-Asousi indicated that throughout the first year of the contract, Knetco, which has the ISO certification 9001:2000, exerted great efforts in order to provide the best high quality and the latest maintenance services for the telecommunication systems in KNPC, which helped greatly in sustaining KNPC’s continual progress, supporting all users and developing the services offered to them.
After that, Mr. Abdul-Aziz Al-Duaij, TL Telecommunications, awarded certificates of appreciation to a number of KNPC engineers who were trained by Knetco.Also, a number of Knetco employees were honored for their outstanding performances at KNPC different work sites. Mr. Mahdi Bou Alian also presented both Mr. Khaled Al-Asousi and Mr. Abdul-Aziz Al-Duaij with souvenirs and token gifts in appreciation of their commendable efforts and sincere cooperation with Knetco team operating at KNPC. |
Al-Wataniyah Club Hosts KNPC Summer Activities Corporate Communication Department organized on 17, 18 July 2008 a barbecue party for KNPC employees and their families at Al-Wataniyah Club. Through organizing such activities the company aims at grouping employees together in a joyful and amusing atmosphere, which conforms with KNPC blief that providing the employees with such activities would help developing any establishment by making the employees feel comfortable in their work area.The barbecue party came concurrently with the summer sports competitions that are usually organized by KNPC every year at Al-Wataniyah Club playgrounds, including various sports and games such as table tennis, bowling, billiard, soccer and basketball. There was also a swimming competition organized on 17/7/2008 for all ages. Throughout the sports competitions. On their part, KNPC eployees expressed their happiness and appreciation of these initiatives which reflect positively on their performance. |
KNPC Signs “Measurement & Accounting” Agreement with KOC, KGOC Mr. Khalid Al-Mushaileh, Manager, Corporate Planning, announced that an agreement regarding “Measurement & Accounting” among KNPC, KOC & KGOC has been finalized recently and approved by KPC in June 2008. The Agreement has come into effect from 1st July 2008 after the signature of the C& MD of all the three Companies. The Agreement has been made in line with the term of “KPC/KNPC Supply Agreement” in which it was stipulated that KNPC is required to sign a “Measurement & Accounting Agreement” with KOC for Crude Oils & other Feedstock sold by KPC to KNPC.The Agreement is primarily meant to specify procedure / methods for measurement and accounting of quantities & qualities covering metering, tank dips, on line analyzers, sampling, tasting, recording and reporting etc. Such procedure and methods shall be implemented by the parties in accordance with the established industry practice as outlined in the said Agreement.The preparation of the Agreement has involved all the three refineries (Technical Services Dept), KOC, KGOC as well KPC – IM besides Corporate Planning – KNPC, who was the overall coordinator of this activity. All parties provided active support during the preparation and drafting of the Agreement.The Agreement is considered to be an important milestone among KPC subsidiary companies in enhancement of the commercial aspects and achieving established company objectives. Higher management of all the three companies has expressed appreciation to all persons who were involved in contributing towards completion of this important task. |
Employees’ Children Enjoy “Summer Camp” Functions For nearly two months, courts, halls and playgrounds of Al-Wataniyah Club hosted the Summer Camp functions and activities for the employees’ children. Regularly organized each year at the beginning of summer holiday, this year’s summer camp started at the beginning of last June with wonderful programs and functions including entertainment, cultural and sports events for all the employees’ children of different ages. Corp Commn Dept was keen on providing the summer campers with various useful activities , exciting trips, competitions, and games. The activities included swimming, soccer, bowling, basketball, table tennis, painting, theatrical shows and a lot of interesting practices which appeal to all tastes and ages, such as organizing a weekly trips for the campers including visits to Marina Mall, Ice Rink, Failaka Island and attending kids movies at the Avenues cinema in addition to a visit to Al-Rai daily and T.V station building.The camp organizers didn’t forget the children with special needs as they provided them with a special team to take care of them and help them practice activities and sports according to their abilities. Mrs. Rihan Mohammed, one of special needs supervisors, said that KNPC gives special interest to this category of employees’ children who were divided into groups according to their tendencies and their mental and physical skills to fulfill all their needs and requirements, and to be assisted to enjoy varied activities like swimming, basketball, bowling and painting. She added that the groups with some limitations and lesser abilities were assisted to express themselves due to their trends even by letting them draw free lines on papers. Children with special needs were also encouraged by receiving gifts and souvenirs |
US Embassy Representative Visits MAA In tandem with its vision that aims at enhancing communications and cementing bilateral relations among all the elements of Kuwaiti oil sector system and the national and foreign institutions and organizations inside and outside Kuwait, and in response to the request of US embassy in Kuwait, KPC organized a visit for the US embassy representative to Mina Al-Ahmadi Refinery .Upon arrival at the Administration Building – MAA, US embassy representative Mr. Harris Daniel was received by Mr. Munawer Al-Mutairi, Manager, Operations, MAA and Mr. Fahad Al-Ajmi, Acting Manager, Technical services, MAA who accompanied the visitor to the DMD Conference Room where the American guest watched a presentation on MAA Refinery establishment, nature of work inside its units and development stages until reaching the current status.
Afterwards, the American visitor had a site tour inside the refinery where he visited some of the work units, including the New Oil Pier, Central Control Room and loading facilities. Concluding his visit to MAA, Mr. Daniel expressed his deep gratitude and appreciation to the leaders and officials of KPC and KNPC represented by MAA Refinery Management. |
DMD – Projects 2nd Town Hall Event In the presence of Mr. Hatem Al-Awadi, DMD – Projects, the second Town Hall Meeting of the departments under his supervision was held on 17/7/2008 at Al-Durra Ballroom – Hilton Kuwait. The meeting was attended by a large crowd of the leaders and employees of these work units.At the beginning, Mr. Hatem Al-Awadi indicated that the main objective of the Town Hall meetings is to raise awareness and Knowledge amongst KNPC employees by providing communication on a range of topics. Then, he gave a presentation in which he reviewed the achievements of all the work units under him throughout the past year, which contributed a lot to KNPC success in year 2007/2008 and established some solid foundations to help transform KNPC into a world class business unit.He also touched on the main issues of Cultural Change and the Strategic Projects and reviewed the key goals, challenges and aspirations for the next year including becoming a top quartile refining company by world standards, applying best practices in all operations, providing training opportunities for all employees, continuing to improve communication, ensuring all behaviors are aligned with Code of Conduct, continuing to build upon the strong HSE performance achieved in 2007/2008 and striving to improve ‘Internal Customer Satisfaction Index’. Mr. Hatem Al-Awadi also briefed the audience on Al-Ro-eya Project which is underway and involves restructuring KPC and its subsidiaries to create an integrated high performance energy company, indicating the multiple benefits anticipated from the project. During the presentation there were two quiz sessions through which the attendees won valuable gifts. Mr. Al-Awadi was keen on having short conversations with the winners to allow them express their views and state their suggestions
regarding developing performance in their work units.After the presentation, there was a question & answer session through which Al-Awadi addressed all the inquiries stated by the audience. |
DMD - MAB Refinery 2nd Town Hall Event In presence of Mr. Mohamed Gazi Al-Mutairi, DMD – MAB, the second Town Hall gathering of DMD - MAB refinery was held on 30/6/2008 at Al-Durra Ballroom – Hilton Kuwait. The meeting was attended by a large number of MAB employees.The event started with screening an interesting video tape showing the true value of the One Team Spirit. Then, Mr. Mohamed Gazi Al-Mutairi gave a presentation in which he highlighted the achievements of MAB refinery throughout the past year, showing that MAB staff contributed a lot to KNPC success in year 2007/2008 and established some solid foundations to help transform KNPC into a world class business unit.
Mr. Al- Mutairi pinpointed that year 2007/08 witnessed achieving exceptional record net profits of KD 856.19 million and highest annual expenditure on training & developing employees in addition to the outstanding HSE performance which exceeded FY 2007/2008 HSE targets.
Mr. Al -Mutairi also touched on the main issues of cultural change and strategic projects and reviewed the key goals, challenges and aspirations for the next year including applying best practices in all operations, providing training opportunities for all employees, continuing to improve communication, ensuring all behaviors are aligned with Code of Conduct, continuing to build upon the strong HSE performance achieved in 2007/08 and striving to improve ‘Internal Customer Satisfaction Index’.Mr. Al-Mutairi seized the chance to honor all MAB employees represented by MAB department managers who were awarded memorial shields and mementos in recognition of all the efforts made by all refinery staff .Towards the end there was an interesting quiz on the information and data included in the DMD presentation and Value Behaviors Booklet. The winners who gave the correct answers received valuable gifts. Then all the attendees were invited to the luncheon served on this occasion. |
ULS Fuels Committee Honored Under the patronage of Mr. Farouk Al-Zanki, Chairman & Managing Director, “Committee for Introducing Ultra Low Sulphur Fuels to Local Market under the European specifications” was honored during a celebration at the H.O. Auditorium on 25/6/2008.The celebration was attended by Mr. Bakhit Al-Rasheedi, DMD Planning & LM, Mr. Fahad Fahad Al-Ajmi, DMD, Finance & Admin Affairs, Mr. Moh’d Gazi Al-Mutairi, DMD. MAB Refinery, Mrs. Mona Al-Ubaid, KPC, DMD., International Marketing Deparment and managers.
In a speech, Mr. Bakhit Al-Rasheedi praised this achievement as being the outcome of continuous hard work. It started, he said, by end of November 2007 when the first meeting was held for the committee assigned for introducing the new fuel to the local market and completed last month by providing the fuel stations concerned with local marketing with the three new products. He added that, such an achievement enables KNPC to supply the local market with new products. He affirmed that Kuwait is the first country in the Gulf area to introduce gas and diesel of the European specifications (Euro 4) to the Kuwaiti market.He indicated that after coordination with KPC, KNPC kept working on improving the quality of the petroleum products supplied to the local market as part of a strategy to provide better service for customers, according to the latest technology applied for cutting the harmful emissions of vehicles and curbing their negative impact on the environment.
Later Engineer Farhan Sari Al-Enezi, ULS Fuels Committee Chairman, reviewed the committee’s achievements throughout its near five-months and the half term. By end of the celebration, the committee members were honored and they received appreciation certificates. Later all attendants were invited for the luncheon arranged especially to mark this occasion. |
SHU Refinery Holds Townhall Meeting Shuaiba refinery held its Townhall meeting at Al-Durrah Ballroom, Al-Mangaf Hilton Resort on July 8, 2008. The meeting was attended by refinery managers, team leaders .
In his presentation Engineer Ahmad Al-Jimaz, DMD SHU Refinery praised the achievements of the refinery represented in the unprecedented profits and high standard performance. He thanked all staff, especially the previous management presided by Engineer Hussein Ismail, for making great efforts to upgrade the refinery’s standard and achieve the current outstanding results. .
He touched on the future plans of the refinery and the procedures required to realize these plans in line with the top management ‘s instructions. He singled out the hurdles that stand in the way of putting such plans in action. He also encouraged refinery staff to continue working hard despite the surrounding pressures and difficult circumstances.Engineer Ahmad Al-Jimaz mentioned that KNPC assigned a professional American consultancy company to prepare a feasibility study on the SHU Refinery. The consultancy company will first report to KNPC that will in turn refer the report to KPC.Al-Jimaz distributed appreciation awards to 30 employees. Later all attendants were invited for the luncheon hosted to mark this occasion. |
New Batch of Refinery-Operators Graduate Human Resources Dept. celebrated the graduation of eight trainees who completed the Refinery -Operation Diploma Program, supervised by the OJT division. The trainees received the Diploma certificate from the Technological Studies College.
Representing the OJT division, Mr. Bader Al-Muzaini, Abeer Behbehani and Adel Al-Ruwaished met with the graduates to congratulate and urge them to make more efforts while working at the operation departments of the refineries. They also advised them to abide by the rules and regulations of the different work units. The celebration was also attended by Samia Al-Awadi, employment specialist, to facilitate the employment procedures of the graduates who will work as refinery operators.During the celebration, and according to the draw system, the graduates were distributed to the vacancies available at the different refinery operation departments. Another batch of trainees will graduate after completing the summer course.
It is noteworthy that any trainee receives a salary during the study period and joins on-site training under supervision of the operation departments. They are employed as field operators immediately after graduation. |
DMD Finance & Admin. Second Town Hall Gathering The second Town Hall Gathering for the departments under control of Mr. Fahad Fahad Al-Ajmi, DMD – Finance & Admin. Affairs was held on 22/6/2008 at the Head Office. The event was attended by a large number of seniors and employees.
In his presentation Mr. Fahad Fahad Al-Ajmi reviewed all the achievements and activities of his departments besides developing and upgrading the KNPC strategic projects.He indicated that the new refinery project will provide a wide range of job opportunities for engineers, technicians and administration personnel, and singled out the incentive system that will reflect positively on all staff.He also pinpointed that the clean fuel project is one of KNPC giant projects which aims at producing low-sulfur fuel compatible with the highest international environment standards.He briefed the attendants on Al-Ro-eya Project which is underway and involves restructuring KPC and its subsidiaries to establish an integrated high performance energy company, indicating that multiple benefits are anticipated from the project.After the presentation, there was an open discussion through which Al-Ajmi addressed and answered all the inquiries and questions posed by the attendants. |
KFH Offers Banking Services At H.O Kuwait Finance House (KFH) offered a full range of services, commercial and banking products at KNPC H.O, to the interested visitors and employees with the aim of increasing its market share by attracting new clients.In the first day, KFH representative elaborated to the visitors on the distinctive range of services which KFH offers, such as the Islamic “Murabaha” dealing system that involves purchase of real estate , boats, electric and electronic appliances, in addition to furniture brand new and second hand cars, accounts and banking cards which differentiate “KFH” dealings that rest on legal and Islamic jurisdiction (Sharia).
Visitors and staff member praised the range of offers allowed until 10/7/2008 and admired the move that proved the care which KFH allows to its clients, in addition to adoption of modern marketing procedures and plans for promoting its services. |
Corporate Planning Organizes Sonocracking Conference In coordination with Global Oil Center- Sulphco agent in Kuwait, the Corporate Planning Dept. organized on 1/7/2008 at the Auditorium – Head Office a presentation to demonstrate the new Sulphco technology “ Sonocracking” for treating crude and heavy residues. The event was attended by a large number of KNPC employees in addition to representatives of Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research.Engr. Khaled Al- Mushaileh, Manager, Corporate Planning, received all the audience and KNPC seniors including Mr. Bakhit Al-Rasheedi, DMD – Planning &Local Marketing, and introduced the Sulphco and Global Oil Center officials.Professor Lari Rayan, CEO, Sulphco, indicated that the new Sonocracking technology helps in improving the crude’s quality, minimizing the sulfur and nitrogen content in addition to increasing density ( API ). This is possible through employing ultrasonic waves that change the crude’s hydrocarbon structure, which facilitates separation of sulfur and nitrogen, and increases the light hydrocarbon components of the high-quality products during the refining processes.He added that testing the new technology proved, after initial testing, that the crude refining returns would rise by 6-8 dollars per barrel in addition to other benefits. By end of the presentation, Dr. Lari Rayan addressed all the queries posed by the attendees who were later invited for the luncheon served on this occasion. |
Launch of Summer Entertainment Activity Program To express its social responsibility towards its employees and their families, KNPC launched on 30/6/2008 its annual Summer Entertainment Activity Program at Al-Wataniya Club.On first day, bowling and table tennis contests for the 17 and over age category and under 17 age category were conducted. The sportive event attracted a large number of employees and their families who came to spend nice time during the summer vacation and to support their favorite players and teams.The competitions were organized under supervision of Mr. Mohamed Al-Rawdan, Supervisor, External Communications, CCD, who presented prizes to the winners.
For under 17 table tennis contest, Abdul Rahman Nazir Malallah came first place and Abdullah Al-Ogail came second. For over 17 table tennis contest, Fawaz Mohamed Taher came first and Salem Ahmed Al-Haza’a came second. For under 17 Bowling game, Mohamed Al-Otaibi won first place leaving the second for Sulaiman Salah Al-Suwailam, and for over 17 Yousif Jassem Al-Sairafi came first and Salem Salah Al-Suwailem came second.Amid an atmosphere of joy and enthusiasm, the Summer Entertainment Activity Program continues throughout the summer vacation at the courts and playgrounds of Al-Wataniya Club. |
KNPC Wins RoSPA, BSC Awards KNPC refineries, Local Marketing and Projects Department have recently won the prestigious 2008 RoSPA-Occupational Health and Safety Awards and British Safety Council (BSC)- International Safety Awards 2007. These exemplary awards, signify the International recognition of KNPC’s thrust and commitment towards continued improvement of SH & E performance and initiatives.The RoSPA and BSC awards are not just about cutting the number of accidents and cases of ill-health at workplace, but they also help to ensure that KNPC has good health and safety management systems in place. |
Company Takes part in Breast Cancer Conference In alignment with its corporate social responsibility to upgrade public awareness on cancer and to urge others to adopt a healthy mode of life and avert cancer, KNPC took part in the Breast cancer workshop arranged by the Kuwaiti Cancer Society, tumors unit on 11-6-2008. MAA Refinery Honors SAB Trainees In the presence of Mr. Asaad Al-Saad, Dy. Chairman & DMD MAA Refinery, Mr. Moh’d Ghazi Al-Mutairi, DMD, MAB Refinery, Mr. Ismail Ghanim, Assistant Undersecretary State Audit Bureau (SAB) ,Director of Exploration and Oil Consultant of SAB Mr. Khaled Al-Kandari and Department Managers of MAA Refinery, State Audit Bureau of Kuwait (SAB) trainees were honored at the refinery auditorium on Thursday 19/6/2008 after they passed the training course which lasted for two months at MAA Refinery. In an opening speech Mr. Asaad Al-Saad welcomed SAB delegation and reviewed its long history of cooperation with KNPC, which resulted in organizing the course to introduce SAB trainees to the refining operations and work progress at the refinery. and talked shortly on KNPC and its role at the Kuwaiti Refining industry level. SAB Oil Sector Undersecretary praised MAA Refinery and its officials who trained the SAB group, hoping that there could be further cooperation between KNPC and SAB. He pointed out that SAB has drafted a five year strategy for upgrading performance, developing and training the young Kuwaitis. He added that both KNPC and SAB are partners heading for one aim and both work together for realizing common benefits. Mr. Asaad Al-Saad, then, referred to the essential role of SAB through the valuable remarks which they raise and which are extremely useful for work progress. Mr. Moh’d Gazi Al-Mutairi, DMD, MAB Refinery appreciated the SAB efforts and the fruitful cooperation with KNPC. On his part, Oil Exploration Department Director praised the great effort made for training the SAB group at the refineries to be aware of the sufferings of KNPC staff members in the refineries who work under hard conditions. By end of the ceremony, the SAB trainees received appreciation awards from Mr. Asaad Al-Saad, Mr. Moh’d Gazi Al-Mutairi and SAB Undersecretary. Al-Ahmadi Educational Area Director Thanks KNPC According to its social role in supporting the community organizations of all social, educational and cultural activities and after the considerate hint from KNPC by distributing stationery to students who completed high school examinations lately, Mr. Talaq Saqr Al-Haim, Al-Ahmadi Educational Area Director received Mr. Talal Al-Dhuabaibi, Sr. Specialist, Publications & Design at his office on Wednesday, 18/6/2008. Mr. Talaq Al-Haim praised KNPC for its support to the educational area. He said that he heard about the great role of KNPC in supporting Al-Ahmadi schools, even before he came on top of Al-Ahmadi Educational Area. He added that he himself touched KNPC efforts for serving all departments and institutions of Al-Ahmadi Governorate, especially the educational ones. He said that he hopes that KNPC may focus its efforts through a large-scale contribution that reflects positively on the educational side and leave a significant impact. |
KNPC Honors Radio Campaign Crew Corporate Communications Department Manager Engr. Mohamed Mansour Al-Ajmi received and honored at KNPC Head Office representatives of the broadcasting crew charged with carrying out the KNPC- sponsored radio awareness campaigns and programs which were aired on the Modern Arabic Music Station (Kuwait Radio FM 103.7 ) and included awareness flashes for students and travelers in addition to awareness programs for avoiding fire hazards and protecting the environment. During the meeting that was attended by Mr. Nabil Al-Bader, TL, External Communications, Mr. Al-Ajmi affirmed the role of radio stations in creating different trends and attitudes at any society and influencing its individuals, which indicates the critical and crucial quality of the mission assigned to the media people in general and radio specialists in particular. Al-Ajmi also commended the stellar performance of all the members of the broadcasting team which resulted in achieving the desired target of KNPC radio campaigns. In appreciation of their laudable efforts, Mr. Al-Ajmi handed the radio team members recognition certificates and token gifts for all of them including those who could not attend that meeting |
KPC Audit & Follow-Up Committee Visits KNPC The KPC HSE Audit & Follow-Up Committee for Oil Sector commenced a roll out visit at KNPC Head Office on 3rd July 2008. Upon arrival, the committee members were received by Mr. Bakhit Al-Rashidi, DMD-Planning &Local Marketing and Mr. Fahad Al-Daihany, Manager, HSE. They reviewed and discussed the KPC Subsidiaries HSE Audit & Follow-Up Schedule 2008/09. The Committee audit tours require the active participation of the senior management to enable them to show commitment and demonstrate concern for the HSE, Fire and Security issues . This is a functional and demonstrable senior management role and is widely practiced in organizations that demonstrate best HSE, Fire & Security practice. The Audit and Follow-up Committee chairs the HSE teams with a timetable of respective field visits to the KPC subsidiary companies. Whilst the Committee intends to measure HSE performance of Subsidiary companies, their audit tours are likewise focused on a wide range of vital issues and concerns including enhancement of management vision and availability in HSE, Fire and Security management performance, creating environment and business climate where health and safety are listed on the senior management’s agenda, providing a vehicle for pro-active 2-way communication between senior management and workforce at HSE, Fire and Security matters, enabling and supporting measurable improvements on HSE, Fire and Security management performance, and upgrading awareness on the importance and relevance of Health, Safety and Security issues at both management and workforce level. |
Opening Pharmacy at H.O In the presence of Mr. Farouk Al-Zanki, Chairman & Managing Director, DMDs and Managers, KNPC opened on 1/7/2008 a Pharmacy at the Head Office to fulfill the employees’ requirements. Mr. Farouk Al-Zanki remarked that opening the pharmacy emphasizes the top management’s instructions for easing the process of access to medicines by all employees who call on the H.O. clinic, noting that this reflects positively on their performance. Mr. Farouk Al-Zanki referred to the absolute support the top management will offer to the pharmacy to achieve its aim, taking in consideration the employees’ health care and providing the necessary equipment to cure all patients referred by the clinic. |
Two New ULS Fuels Introduced to Local Market Two new grades of gas and diesel of European specifications (Euro 4) were marketed to some Kuwaiti fuel stations in the beginning of July 2008. Mr. Bakhit Al-Rashidi, KNPC, DMD., Planning & Local MKTG pointed out that the two new products are available now at three oil filling stations in Kuwait, namely Al-Shuwaikh, Bayan and Mina Abdullah. He affirmed that the two new products represent a qualitative leap towards the future, because they were produced to cope with the up to date designs of autos and motors that require cutting the harmful vehicle emissions and minimize their negative impact on the environment. Mr. Bakhit Al-Rashid also mentioned that the new ultra low sulfur content fuels or no more than 10 particles per million (ppm) of sulfur, in addition to other high quality specifications aim at protecting the environment. He mentioned that marketing the two ULS fuels makes Kuwait a pioneer in the region and underscore KNPC drive for protection both of public health standard and of the Kuwaiti environment from pollution. Concluding he said that two products are available against 260 Fils for gas and 350 Fils for diesel per liter. The price was based on the actual cost of the products that are imported from the Kuwaiti refineries managed by KPC in Europe, adding that both ULS fuels are required by the cars that run by “Euro 4” engines. |
Summer Training Program for Employees’ Children Kicks off Springing from its deep belief in its community serving role and to cement the principle of collective responsibility which is one of the key principles adopted by the company, KNPC launched the Summer Training Program 2008 for employees’ children, organized by the On-Job-Training, HR Dept. The program kicked off with an introductory meeting on 29/6/2008 at the Auditorium – Head Office. It was attended by the 60 registered trainees who will receive rewards for attending the program. Mr. Bader Al-Muzaini started the meeting by welcoming the students and indicating that KNPC is fully interested in organizing the program during 29/6 to 7/8/2008. Al-Anoud Al-Hasawi, OJT Specialist, reviewed the newly added activities this year, which include visits to MAB Refinery, The Scientific Center, KOC, in addition to an entertainment sports day. She also reviewed the rules and regulations that the trainees should abide by during the training period and outlined the duties of the summer training coordinators. Then after that,there was a screening for a documentary on MAB. Then, Engr. Deven Kotecha, Technical Support, SHE - MAA gave a lecture on the nature and importance of SHE procedures at all KNPC sites and facilities. Finally the gate passes were distributed to the trainees just to start their training program the following day. |
Planning & Local Marketing DMD Town Hall In the presence of Mr. Bakhit Al-Rashidi, DMD – Planning & Local Marketing, the second Town Hall Meeting of the departments and teams under the DMD - P&LM was held on 26/6/2008 at the Auditorium – Head Office. The meeting was attended by a large number of seniors and employees. At the beginning, Mr. Bakhit Al-Rashidi indicated that the main objective of the Town Hall meetings is to upgrade the awareness and understanding amongst KNPC employees by providing communication on a range of topics. Then, he gave a presentation in which he reviewed the achievements of all work units under his supervision (Corporate Planning, Local Marketing, Corporate Communications, Information Technology, KIMS, STOT and Privatization Team ) throughout the past year, showing that Planning & Local Marketing staff contributed a lot to KNPC success in year 2007/08 and established solid foundations to help transform KNPC into a world class business unit. He indicated that the year 2007/08 was another success story and was the 4th consecutive year in which KNPC reported exceptional record net profit of KD 856.19 million (48.7% increase compared to last year ) and biggest annual expenditure on training & developing employees (KD19.2 million) in addition to the outstanding HSE performance which exceeded FY2007/08 HSE Balance Scorecard targets by 27%. He also touched on the main issues of Cultural Change and the Strategic Projects and reviewed the key goals, challenges and aspirations for the next year including becoming a top quartile refining company by world standards, applying best practices in all operations, providing training opportunities for all employees, continuing to improve communication, ensuring all behaviors are aligned with Code of Conduct, continuing to build upon the strong HSE performance achieved in 2007/08 and striving to improve ‘Internal Customer Satisfaction Index’. He also briefed the audience on Al-Ro-eya Project which is underway and involves restructuring KPC and its subsidiaries to create an integrated high performance energy company, indicating the multiple benefits anticipated from the project. After the presentation, there was an open discussion through which Al-Rashidi addressed and answered all the inquiries and questions posed by the audience. |
MAB Refinery obtains International Awards The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) and the British Council for Safety & Health, the two top list organizations for safety and health in Britain, decided to grant MAB Refinery the best unique performance certificates . Oil companies seek obtaining the two internationally classified certificates.Received in London by Mr. Hamad Jassem, TL, Safety & Fire - MAB, Engineer Fayez AlKhezam, TL, Workshops & General Works - MAB. Such certificates are often granted according to the international criteria applied by by MAB Refinery as follows:
-Low number of accidents at the refinery compared to similar refineries in the world.
-Applying the integrated safety system which consists of 14 elements that cover the company’s comprehensive safety requirements..
-Accessibility to applicable systems such as the internationally recognized industrial health system, which includes the industrial damages suffered by the employees.
-The application of the international BBS system which is applied wide scale at the refinery. It is one of the advanced and internationally accredited systems.
-Applying the protective maintenance system at the refinery and testing the competence of the implemented equipment.
-No fatalities record at the refinery over 13 years.
The refinery deserved the two certifications according to the employees’ efforts and their commitment to directives of the top management and to all international applied standards, which secure best protection and safety for all employees of the refinery. |
Kuwait Society of Engineers Honors KNPC In appreciation of the strenuous efforts made by KNPC for supporting the civil society institutions in various development spheres, Kuwait Society of Engineers honored KNPC Corporate Communication Dept Manager Engr. Mohammad Al-Ajmi for the prominent role he played in establishing the Engineering Classification Council in Kuwait and pushing it forward since it was established in 1996.
Al-Ajmi received during the celebration hosted on the occasion at the Holiday Inn, Sharq area, June 4, 2008, a memorial shield from the Minister of Communications Abdelrahman Al-Ghnein as well as an appreciation award from Minister of Public Works and Minister of State for Municipal Affairs Dr. Fadhel Safar, with the participation of Society Head Engr. Talal Al-Qahtani.
Al-Ajmi expressed pride over this honor ceremony, underlining that being involved with his colleagues in the Engineering Classification Council aims mainly at qualifying, training and classifying the engineers working with both public and private sectors. He underlined that the continued support of KNPC for the civil society institutes and the Engineering Classification Council springs from the KNPC policies that were approved by its Board of Directors, and to foster its role in serving the society and realizing the development process. |
KIMS Announces Success of Tests for MAA, SHU KIMS announced on 12 June 2008 that the production accounting team has successfully conducted a Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) for SHU refinery Advisor model in presence of SHU refinery representatives and M/S AspenTech Middle East (ATME).
Meanwhile, SCO Refinery Modeling team has successfully completed Site Acceptance Test (SAT) for MAA crude units in presence of MAA refinery representatives and M/S AspenTech Middle East (ATME).
In addition, Supply Chain Optimization (SCO) planning team has conducted Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) for MAB PIMS model with MAB refinery representatives and M/S AspenTech Middle East (ATME). The SCO team will release a new improved model after the global model FAT to KNPC Planner which will help them to better optimize KNPC refineries and increase profit in-line with the company mission and vision.
The Supply Chain Optimization (SCO) project is an ongoing project handled by KIMS department after implementing two successful projects MAXIMO and Oracle. |
KNPC Sponsors Graduation Projects Fair of CEP Students KNPC co-sponsored the 14th Engineering Design Graduation Projects Fair of College of Engineering & Petroleum students. The event was arranged under the patronage of the President of Kuwait University Professor Abdullah Al-Fuhaid who deputized Dr. Anwar Al-Yatama, University Secretary-General, to open the fair on 10/6/ 2008 at Farouk Al-Mutairi Hall – Khaldiya Campus.Representing KNPC, Mr. Mohamed Al-Ghanim, Manager, Financial Department, participated in the inauguration ceremony. He indicated that the company offered special support to the College of Engineering & Petroleum students to help them carry out their graduation projects, which is an integral part of KNPC strategy that aims at supporting CEP students and helping them achieve their targets and realize their ambitions for the good of the company and Kuwait.

SHE Honors General Fire Department Seniors Based on KNPC interest in communicating with the civil society organizations, cooperate with government departments concerned with the oil sector and appreciating the distinctive role played by the General Fire Department, especially during emergencies and training activities, a delegation from SHE Department visited the Head Office of the General Fire Department on 25/5/2008 to honor its leaders.
The visit included SHE Manager Mr. Fahad Al-Daihany, MAA TL Safety & Fire Adel Al-Mejel and MAA Chief Fire Officer Fahad Al-Jasser. During the visit Mr. Al-Daihany awarded the General Fire Department seniors appreciation awards and souvenirs. The awarded persons included Major General Jasim Al-Mansouri, Brigadier General Yousif Al-Ansari, Deputy General Manager Combat Affairs, Colonel Jamal Al-Belihas, Chief of Hazardous Stuff Center and Mr. Abdullah Mohamed Al-Rahim Movement & Workshop Controller at the Fire Garage. He singled out their close and continuous cooperation with KNPC fire centers.
On his part, MAA Chief Fire Officer Fahad Al-Jasser indicated that the KNPC delegation discussed with the General Fire Department seniors ways of promoting and developing cooperation between the two sides.
Accordingly, there was a protocol devised for coordinating efforts and collaboration between the two sides in all aspects related to firefighting and responding to emergencies. The two sides plan to sign the protocol in the near future. |
DMD MAA Area – Town Hall Under the patronage and in presence of Mr. Asaad Al-Saad, Deputy Chairman and DMD – MAA, the second MAA Town Hall Meeting, scheduled to be held yearly, kicked off on 1/6/2008 at Al-Durra Ballroom – Hilton Kuwait.The meeting was attended by a large crowd of MAA leaders, officials and employees. Mr. Asaad Al-Saad gave a presentation in which he reviewed the MAA staff achievements last year including the 5 million Man-Hours without Lost Workday Case (LWC), in addition to C&MD HSE Platinum Award in addition to other international prestigious awards.
Also, MAA contributed 53% to the unprecedented record profits achieved by KNPC last year and moved forward to realize the KNPC vision target for building best people through the doubling of training funds.He also reviewed MAA challenges and aspirations for the next year including pushing forward the cultural change initiatives, fostering MAA interdepartmental cooperation, enhancing leadership capabilities, making available more training opportunities, improving communications, building on MAA strong HSE performance, optimizing operation costs, maintaining and pushing up profitability rates and ensuring that MAA staff behaviors are aligned with KNPC Code of Conduct.By end of the presentation, the floor was open for discussion and Mr. Asaad Al-Saad answered all the queries posed by the audience. KNPC Takes part in Breast Cancer Conference In alignment with its stated corporate social responsibility to upgrade public awareness on cancer and to urge others to adopt a healthy mode of life and avert cancer, KNPC took part in the Breast cancer workshop arranged by the Kuwaiti Cancer Society, tumors association on 11-6-2008.

KNPC Hosts Presentation on Oil Sector Vision Project In the presence of Mr. Farouk Al-Zanki, Chairman &Managing Director, DMDs, Managers, Division Heads, Team Leaders in addition to a large crowd of KNPC staff at, the Head Office Auditorium hosted on 4/6/2008 a presentation on the KPC oil sector Vision Project delivered by Mr. Bader Naser Al-Khashti, Chairman & Managing Director of Kuwait Gulf Oil Company.The presentation started with screening a documentary touching on the developmental impact of oil that represents the national budget’s main source of income. It also touched on the assessment and views of a group of oil sector experts and leaders regarding the sector’s performance and how to develop it.Mr. Bader Naser Al-Khashti, then, reviewed the beginning and development of the Vision Project and its prime target which is resembled in upgrading the oil sector performance both regionally and globally. He also reviewed the main aspects of the highly professional and objectivity of the report prepared by the Vision Team, that focused on the constraints that hinder the oil sector’s drive for achieving the targeted performance standard, including the unique imbalance of the organization structure of KPC and its subsidiaries, lack of common vision and uniform identity, overlap of roles and responsibilities, lack of independence, outer interventions, lack of technical expertise in addition to the frequent changes in applicable practice systems. All these shortcomings led eventually to the current lackluster of the image of KPC and its subsidiaries at media level and loss of promising opportunities worth about 11billion US dollars per year.To stop and rectify that decline and to proceed towards the unlimited future horizons, the Vision Team made some recommendations including the dire need for drawing a line between oil and politics, devising a stable and clear vision that serves as a secure base for KPC to build on its strategic attitudes and trends, turning KPC into a new commercially-run company with a board presided by a non-functional chairman and turning oil companies into work units run by new company.By end of the presentation the floor was open for queries. SHEEC Holds Regular Meeting The SH&E Executive Committee led by C&MD, Farouk Al-Zanki met at the KNPC Head Office on 28th April 2008 and reviewed SH&E performance throughout 2007-08. Before end of the meeting the committee members deliberated and finalized the new SH&E objectives for the current year 2008-09.During the meeting Mr. Fahad Al-Dihani Manager SH&E presented the Performance data and commented that the year saw excellent overall SH&E performance and nearly all the targets were exceeded or were very close to targets. He informed that all KNPC sites won SH&E awards for the year 2008,from international organizations - British Safety Council (BSC) and Royal Society for the Prevention Of Accidents( RoSPA) for their excellent performance in the year 2007.Specific success representing the performance surpassing the set targets included Near-miss reporting, Incident Frequency and severity rates, Behavioral Based Safety Observations (BBS ) Contact Rate, Recordable Vehicle related accidents, Recordable Environmental Incidents, Recordable fires and Good Days worked.While deliberating on the new objectives and Targets for the year 2008-09, SHEEC members retained some key SH&E performance measures like Near Miss Reporting, Accident Frequency/Severity Rates, Recordable Fires, Recordable Vehicle Accidents, Recordable Environmental Incidents etc. New measures like the SH&E Performance Audits (SPA) at sites, Total Accident Frequency Rate (TAFR),Driving Safety Training up to Supervisory Levels have been included. Team leader SHEMS presented the proposed common SH&E Objectives for all levels of employees in KNPC. The members ratified the proposals and advised wide publicity to the agreed targets and new SH&E objectives. The deliberations ended with a happy and positive note.In turn Chairman and MD Farouk Al-Zanki lauded the distinctive performance of all Department staff members in the security sphere, adding that their efforts in this regard eased the obtaining of many prominent international awards such as the British Safety Council award and the Royal Society award. Al-Nijadi Motor Sport Team Visits KNPC KNPC received Mishal Al-Nejadi Team for Motor Sport at the Head Office, Dar Al-Wataniyah.Mr. Farouk Al-Zanki, Chairman & M.D as well the DMDs and KNPC seniors visited the expo and appreciated the great efforts made by the team regarding motor sport activities. KNPC employees also visited Al-Nejadi team. They took note of their activities beside shooting memorial photos with the team members who were available during the period 3-5/6/2008.Mishal Al-Nejadi Team is one of the most qualified and ambitious national models, that represented Kuwait in various international and local competitions. They rated first place and gained good reputation during the most difficult contests. The team also established a motor driving center for the amateurs willing to be trained within an environment that secures all safety requirements for the learners.
The training center includes academic and practical classes for five days. By completion of each course the student becomes qualified and receives an accredited certificate. |
HR Dept. Celebrates End of Second Stage of Leaders’ Development Program The Human Resources Department organized on Wednesday 21/5/2008 at Sheraton Hotel, a gala to celebrate the wrap up of the leaders development gathering. KNPC seniors of various levels representing the Head Office, the three refineries as well as the Local Marketing Department attended the gala topped by Mr. Farouk Al-Zanki, Chairman & MD.In an opening speech Mr. Fahad Fahad Al-Ajmi, DMD Finance & Admin Affairs thanked Mr. Farouk Al-Zanki for his attendance, noting that such a gathering was not only for celebrating the end of the second stage of the leaders development program , but represents a new beginning after the previous stages that aimed at improving the behavioral skills of team leaders and coordinators.He indicated that there will be other phases under the supervision of the Human Resources Department and Career Development Division, with the assistance of the best specialized international organizations. Al-Ajmi added that the importance of leaders’ development at the level of managers and team leaders is related to the ability to train a new generation that drives KNPC to more success, in particular because KNPC is planning for implantation of huge projects that require efforts of all staff members.Al-Ajmi then referred to the prime importance of the systematic on the job training programs for the new engineers, which are considered a national duty beside its crucial role concerning the company’s progress. Training Courses for KNPC Firefighters Safety & Fire Division – MAA organized 12 training courses for the firefighting equipment operators and firemen at the KNPC refineries’ fire stations. The courses, conducted under the supervision of MAA fire station from 2/3/2008 to 22/5/2008, were presented by two specialized experts from the Fire College - United Kingdom who were invited to Kuwait for this purpose.On his part Mr. Adel Ibrahim Al-Mejel, TL, Safety& Fire – MAA affirmed that the main focus of those courses was on how to use the mobile ladders and platforms in emergencies, rescue works and firefighting especially in cases of fires of hydrocarbon materials. The courses also aimed at upgrading the performance level of the equipment operators and firemen and help them acquire the technical skills required for fighting fires erupting in high rise buildings. On the other hand Mr. Fahad Al-Jasser, Chief Fire Officer – MAA indicated that training courses were arranged in response to the top management directives that place great interest in the continuous development of refineries fire team members and qualifying them to efficiently deal with all types of emergencies that might occur at any of the KNPC sites in addition to providing them with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to rescue trapped people inside burning buildings, and contain fires as soon as possible whether inside or outside refineries. He added that each of the 12 courses took one week and comprised 6 trainees of equipment operators and senior firemen.At the end of the last course, Mr. Fahad Al-Jasser honored the British trainers and handed them memorial shields and appreciation certificates in recognition of their sincere efforts exerted throughout those courses |
KNPC Sponsors & Participates in Petrotech Conference & Expo KNPC took part in the conference and the 6th Middle East Refining & Petrochemicals Conference and Exhibition (Petrotech 2008) , held in Bahrain under the patronage of Sheikh Khalifah Bin Salman Al Khalifah, Prime Minister of Bahrain, and the attendance of Mr. Saad Al-Shuwaib, CEO-KPC.KNPC took part in such an event run during 25-26 May, 2008, because it is considered one of the biggest activities specialized in refining as well gas and petrochemicals industries in the Middle East. In addition it attracts a lot of interested people and specialists, and allows chance for all attendants to exchange ideas and experience, and get acquainted with up to date developments in the fields of gas, refining and petrochemical industries.More than 1000 officials and experts in oil and gas transformation industry attended the conference which was organized under the slogan “Refining / Petrochemical Integration : The Way for Future Growth”. About 80 work papers and researches were presented. They touched on ways of coordination and integration among the refining and petrochemical industry sectors , management, techniques, equipment, manufacturing as well as Health, Safety & Environment.As one of KPC subsidiaries, KNPC also took part in the expo that was held along with the conference. 156 world companies from 22 countries participated in that expo, that displayed the most recent equipment and technical developments in the field of refining and petrochemicals.KNPC pavilion attracted a large number of visitors interested in the refining industry in general and the Company’s projects in particular, such as the new refinery and clean fuel projects.The “Petrotech Conference & Expo” was first launched in 1996 and is organized once every other year. |
KNPC Participates in Kuwait Oil & Gas Conference and Expo KNPC’s participation in Kuwait Oil & Gas Conference and Expo, organized during 27-29/5/2008 at Al-Hashimi Ballroom – Radisson SAS Hotel, came out of its deep interest in discussing and being acquainted with the latest scientific developments in responding to the oil spills.
In the inauguration speech delivered by Mr. Sami Fahad Al-Rushaid, C&MD - KOC on behalf of the conference patron Mr. Mohammed Al-Olaim, Minister of Water &Electricity and Acting Oil Minister, Al-Rushaid indicated that oil is the main pillar for development and progress of any nation, that’s why the world demand for oil is surging all the time. As a result, there is great hike in marine and land oil transportation operations which resulted in increasing marine and land pollution due to the oil spills. Consequently, he suggested that the main topic of the conference would be “ Managing Oil Spills”, and reminded the audience of the oil and environmental disaster faced by Kuwait after the Iraqi invasion. He also referred to the challenges confronted by the conferees who are expected to lay the basics of successful management of oil transportation operations, preventing oil spills and developing an integrated and balanced system of safeguarding the environment and promoting the economy.

for the Protection of the Marine Environment in Kuwait, called for joining efforts in order to enjoy a safe and clean environment that suffers no oil spills. KNPC Cricket Team Plays 3rd Final Match KNPC cricket team played the final match of 3dr Oil Sector Cricket tournament on May 31, 2008 against Fluor International cricket team. The match was won by Fluor Cricket team and the KNPC team secured the Runner-Up trophy. The tournament was organized by the KOC Cricket Committee.The game started at 8:00 AM due to the high mid-day temperature. KNPC Cricket team batted first and managed to reach a decent total of 148 runs in allotted 20 overs. However the Fluor team chased and reached the target in 18 overs. The game was watched by a large number people including families. A prize distribution ceremony was held after the game. The ceremony was attended by officials from Fluor and KOC.
The next final KNPC sponsored cricket tournament will be held on June 07, 2008. |

KNPC Celebrates Environment World Day Based on its utmost concern over all activities related to the environment KNPC shared with all states the World Environment Day celebrations on June 5th . In a move that reflects KNPC interest in upgrading environmental awareness of staff and all Kuwaiti citizens over the prime environment issues, Mr. Farouk Al-Zanki Chairman & M.D, accompanied with DMDs planted nurslings outside and inside the head office.
Also marking the World Environment Day nurslings were distributed to all employees at the Head Office, the three refineries and the Local Marketing Department. At this time every year, KNPC celebrates the occasion in different ways by organizing lectures to upgrade environmental awareness, printing and distributing posters and brochures that touch on environmental issues of concern |
KNPC Organizes Marine Equipment Expo The Corporate Communication Department organized on 3-6-08 the Marine Equipment Expo at the Head office (Dar Al-Wataniyah).
The expo was opened by Mr. Farouk Al-Zanki Chairman & M.D, and attended by Mr. Asaad Al-Saad Dy. Chairman & DMD MAA Refinery, Mr. Ahmad Al-Jimaz DMD SHU Refinery and Eng. Moh’d. Mansour Al-Ajmi Mgr., Corp. Commn. Dept. The attendants enjoyed THE offers and discounts presented by the participating companies specialized in marine equipment, and that displayed yachts, boats, fishing and diving equipment as well as sea sports’ tools.
In turn Engr. Moh’d. Mansour Al-Ajmi indicated that KNPC always attempts to provide its personnel with special offers through organizing various kinds of activities. He added that, the aim of such expo is to fulfill the needs of those who enjoy sea sports, especially during summer time that lure practice of sea sports.
He also pointed out that many companies participated in the expo and displayed the latest marine equipment against special prices for KNPC employees in particular. In addition, some companies working in the environment related field, marine environment in particular participated in the expo, which reflects KNPC’s interest in supporting all environmental activities. |
Perfume & Cosmetics Expo Kicks off at KNPC The Kuwait National Petroleum Company organized its first “Perfume & Cosmetics Expo” at the Head Office on May 25, 2008. Many famous companies specialized in this field participated in the week-long expo.
Mr. Bakhit Al-Rasheedi, DMD, Planning & Local Marketing opened the expo, while Mr. Ahmed Al-Muzaiel, Team Leader, Media Corporate Communication Department and a large number of the company’s employees attended the event.
From the first day the expo witnessed an unprecedented number of KNPC staff in particular and oil sector staff in general, who enjoyed the multiple and luring displays, discount and offers allowed for the best classes of perfumes and cosmetics.

LM Dept. Celebrates Completing 10 Million LWC Free Man-Hours Mr. Bakhit Al-Rashidi, DMD -Planning & LM, indicated that the kind of work that avoids any loss or accidents, is the best sign for work dedication. However this would not be achieved without implementation and commitment to the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) conditions.
In his speech during the celebration of the LM Dept.’s celebration of the completion of 10 million LWC free man-hours by end of March 2008, Mr. Bakhit Al-Rashidi added, the L.M Dept.’s commitment to the realization of development, continuity of modernization and address of the challenges, goes along with the strict obligation of applying the HSE conditions by drawing a clear work plan for everyone and sticking to it.
Al-Rashidi pointed out that, the accomplishment of 10 million LWC free man-hours is not an easy task for a department that employs more than 1700 KNPC and contractors’ staff, with a field like - not office- working nature, in addition to continuous truck movements and flammable Hydro carbonic substances. He emphasized that such achievement reflects cooperation and collaboration of all divisions of the department to realize the “LWC” target.By end of his speech, Al-Rashidi praised all the department personnel for their success, and encouraged them to keep up hard work with the aim of enhancing the HSE rules.He also congratulated them, because their department got the Chairman’s best performance award in the field of HSE as well as the British Safety Council Award and the British Royal Accidents’ Prevention Community award Britain this year. |
KNPC Takes Part in Hepatitis Conference KNPC took part in the liver medical conference that kicked off at the Crown Plaza Hotel on 4-5-08, under patronage of the Minister of Health Abdullah Al-Tawil and in presence of the interested companies as well as the Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) in cooperation with the Colorado Center.
In an opening speech the Minister who deputized the Assistant Undersecretary for Services Dr. Rashed Al-Rshoud who thanked all those who took part in the event to support the Hepatitis patients, adding that there is no question that about importance of protection from diseases.KRCS representative Dr.Yousef Al-Miraj hoped for continuation of all efforts to kill the hepatitis virus once and for all.
Mr. Hussein Al-Nasrallah who donated for construction of a hepatitis treatment hospital that the first conference is the seed for treating the patients and planting liver for those in need.
Dr. Fuad Al-Ali, Dean of Medicine, Kuwait University, elaborated on this disease and stressed need for capping it through health awareness campaigns.In his speech, Engr. Moh’d Mansour Al-Ajmi, Manager Corporate Communications Department (CCD), said health, cultural and social awareness campaigns are not restricted to the Ministries and Institutions, but is the responsibility of all. He indicated that KNPC role is not just realizing high returns but stretches to optimum exploitation of the country’s oil wealth. KNPC Participates in Special Needs “Up to It” Conference KNPC took part with the Higher Council of Handicapped Affairs in the activities of Kuwaiti Project of Special Needs which was held under the slogan “Up to It” during the period 12 to 17/5/2008.
A large crowed was noticed around KNPC’s pavilion within the expo at Marina Mall Complex, Salmiyah suburb. The gala that was organized under the sponsorship of the Minister of Justice, Social Affairs & Labor and a large number of officials and institutions whether private or public, interested in the affairs of the handicapped in Kuwait. However the conference kicked off at Kuwait Sheraton.
Mr. Jamal Al-Shihab Minister of Justice, Social Affairs & Labor, indicated in his speech the importance of communication with those of special needs and the great support they receive from the officials.After that, Mr. Ibrahim Al-Kandari President of “Afaq Educational Community” thanked the companies which supported those who need support from everyone.
Mr. Kamel Abuljalil from the Industrial Bank reviewed his experience as one of those of special needs, and how he became distinctive in the field which he selected, pointing out the continuous support which he gets from all the governmental and public associations and praised the companies which took part in pushing forward the Kuwaiti Special Needs Project.Specialist Dr. Huda Shaaban, President of “Learning Difficulties Community” in Kuwait focused in her speech on the shortages and needs of the handicapped person . She invited all ministries, especially Ministry of Education to change the entire system and to increase the support, in order to change the whole vision to that sort of people.

KNPC Takes Part in Marathon of Hepatitis Patients Campaign. In line with its unlimited support for the Kuwaiti community serving activities in all fields, KNPC participated in the Marathon organized on 8/5/2008 to support the Hepatitis Patients Campaign.
The KNPC participation in such event embodied the company’s utter commitment to maintain the policy of fostering the social events and charitable functions that aim to help patients and people with special needs.
During the event, organized by the Kuwaiti Red Crescent Society and Colorado Center and sponsored by a set of local companies.A team of Corp.Comm.dept. guided the KNPC participants in the Marathon and distributed gifts to the contestants of all ages, which had a very positive impact on all the organizers and sponsors.
With huge participation from different sectors of society and KNPC employees, and under the supervision of the representatives of both Health and Interior ministries and the Public Authorities of Youth and Sports, the Marathon started at the Swimming Pool Complex where the contestants ran along the Gulf Street until the finish line at the Green Island.
At the end of the Marathon gifts and prizes were distributed to the participants, and there was an entertainment program including a number of funny items that were enjoyed by all the audience who celebrated with the participants and winners of that Marathon. |
KNPC Participates in Job Opportunity Expo KNPC took part in the Job Opportunity Expo organized during 4-5/5/2008 at Engineering College – Kuwait university. The expo was inaugurated by the College’s Dean Mr. Taher Al-Sahaf in the presence of the teaching staff board and the KNPC staff. After the inauguration ceremony Mr. Taher Al-Sahaf, with his accompaniers, had a tour on the pavilions of the participating companies where he was briefed on the job opportunities they offer.
During his visit to the KNPC pavilion at the expo Mr. Taher Al-Sahaf hailed the outstanding participation of the company and affirmed the great interest of the senior students in visiting its well organized pavilion to get informed about the range of job opportunities offered by KNPC to the fresh graduates of the Engineering College who search for attractive job advantages.

Projects Department Celebrates Obtaining ISO/TS 29001 : 2003 Under the patronage of Mr. Abdulhakeem Ismail, Manager Projects Dept and a large crowd of KNPC employees, KNPC Projects Department organized a gala for its employees at Al-Wataniah Club in Al-Finitees to celebrate obtaining the ISO/TS 29001:2003 quality excellence award. The celebration started with a welcoming speech by Mr. B.U Dassagy, the Quality Management System Consultant, followed by a speech by Abdulhakeem Ismail who congratulated the attendants and all department staff, for accomplishing such an outstanding achievement.
He urged all staff members to make more efforts to attain the planned objectives according to the assigned timetables. After that, Mr. Abdulhakeem Ismail distributed gifts to those of distinctive performance staff members, who worked very hard to enable the department to realize such an unprecedented achievement, not at the KNPC level only but at level of all Gulf companies similar to KNPC.
Later he invited all attendants for a luncheon hosted on their honor. Commenting on obtaining such a superior award Mr. Abdulhakeem Ismail told “Al-Wataniah Supplement” that the Quality Management at any company as huge as KNPC is one of the main elements that calls for proper practice, and if it was not for it there would have been both many faults and a defect in both the quality of work system and the final product, and hence reflect on negatively on the company’s reputation and its development process.
Based on that, the Projects Department channeled all its efforts to this issue, and today we witness the outcome of the efforts made by the Projects Department. It is worth mentioning that, this is the first award of its kind ever granted to any department in the Gulf area, thus upgrading staff pride and happiness feelings.
Regarding the next stage, Mr. Abdulhakeem Ismail said that there will be a non-stop action within the department to obtain more quality certifications for high the quality standards. KNPC will also keep on allowing department staff to get high standard qualification certificates from authentic international organizations. |
NORINCO Delegation Visits KNPC Head Office, MAA Within framework of KNPC genuine commitment to cement ties with the global giant economic organizations, Mr. Asaad Al-Saad, Deputy Chairman & DMD – MAA received on 13/5/2008 at the Chairman’s Meeting Room - Head Office the delegation of China North Industries Group Corporation (NORINCO).
The Chinese Delegation was presided by Mr. Wen Gang, NORINCO Vice President and included a number of directors and managers in addition to the Chinese ambassador to Kuwait and NORINCO’s Kuwait Liaison Office General Manager Mr. Yuan Jun.
At the beginning Mr. Asaad Al-Saad welcomed the delegation members, expressing his deepest sorrow for the victims of the earthquake that struck China, extending his condolences to the government and people of China.
On his part Mr. Wen Gang thanked Mr. Asaad Al-Saad on the warm welcome and presented a brief overview of NORINCO which has 300,000 employees deployed among 80 Chinese government companies, 40 studies & research centers and 40 overseas companies. He indicated that NORINCO is basically specialized in military production but it also operates in the technological, chemical and oil industry fields. Mr. Wen Gang hoped to cement ties with Kuwaiti companies especially KNPC to benefit from its great expertise in the field of petrochemicals as NORINCO has relatively limited experiences in that field.
Engr. Abdullah Al-Ajmi, Manager Technical Services – MAA gave a presentation on establishing, developing of KNPC and the nature of work inside its facilities, focusing on Mina Al-Ahmadi Refinery which is the biggest of the company’s three refineries. During the presentation the Chinese side posed a lot of questions and inquiries on naphtha production and other petrochemical components. Mr. Asaad Al-Saad addressed all inquiries and expressed KNPC genuine interest in fostering relations and exchanging technical expertise with the Chinese giant corporation.After the presentation the delegation members toured the MAA refinery and visited the Loading facilities, Control Room and the New Pier. Then, they came back to the Head Office to have the lunch served in honor of the delegation and the Chinese ambassador who exchanged gifts and memorial shields with Mr. Asaad Al-Saad. |
Inspection & Corrosion Divisions Hold First Annual Joint Celebration Under the slogan “Teamwork for Promoting Industrial Reliability”, the Inspection &Corrosion Divisions at KNPC three refineries held on 22/4/2008 at Al-Durrah Ballroom – Kuwait Hilton resort their first annual joint celebration in the presence of Mr. Asaad Al-Saad, Deputy C&MD and DMD-MAA; Mr. Mohamed Ghazi Al;-Mutairi, DMD-MAB; Mr. Ahmed Al-Jemaz, DMD-SHU as well as the inspection and corrosion Team Leaders: Mr. Musaed Al-Arada, TL, I&C-MAB; Mr. Saad Al-Zufairi, TL, I&C-MAA and Mr. Naser al-Subaee, TL, I&C-SHU, in addition to a large number of the three refineries I &C Division employees.
The ceremony started with a speech by Mr. Asaad Al-Saad who expressed his pleasure and pride to attend such first meet that grouped all the inspection and corrosion divisions at the company refineries, stressing the importance of teamwork spirit, which is a global trend in all fields including the oil refining sector. He added that the teamwork approach plays a vital role in increasing profitability, achieving operations’ safety and gaining good reputation at the world refineries level.Consequently, KNPC aspires that the three I &C at the three refineries would closely communicate, cooperate , exchange expertise and share the same recommended applications that proved to be successful.
Mr. Al-Saad added that there will be regular meetings for staff of the three divisions, who will be urged to switch positions within the three divisions to get acquainted with the work procedures and methods adopted by other I &C divisions, exchange ideas and discuss suggestions through holding coordination meetings. He affirmed that such cooperation would certainly result in a positive impact on work reliability at KNPC.
On his part, Mr. Mohamed Ghazi Al;-Mutairi emphasized the importance of industrial reliability at the oil refining sector level, lauded the commendable role played by the I &C divisions and supported by the Top Management, which help ensure both equipment and personnel safety at all KNPC sites. He concluded saying he is sure that through the teamwork spirit I &C divisions can end up with even more brilliant achievements.
The three I &C D Divisions Team Leaders gave brief speeches, expressing their pleasure to have such a gathering, hoping to pursue more coordination and cooperation among the three divisions. After that, a film on the I &C engineer practices within the refineries was played, followed by a review of the achievements of the three I &C D Divisions which greatly participated in minimizing the technical hazards at the refineries.
The entertainment program of the event also included some interesting contests in addition to distributing presents and prizes to the attendees and participants. |
KNPC Takes Part in Basic Education College “Environment Day” Believing in the true value of environment protection, KNPC participated in the functions of the Environment Day organized on 22/4/2008 by the Basic Education College Environment Committee at the college’s premises in Shamiya.
The functions started upon arrival of Sheikh Ali Jabir Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah, Governor of the Capital and patron of the event accompanied by Dr. Dalal Al-Hadhoud, College Dean ; Dr. Bahija Behbehani, Assistant Dean for students Affairs in addition to the faculty and the Mukhtars of the different Kuwaiti areas.
Together with the College Dean, the Capital’s Governor had a tour in the fair and the pavilions of participating companies including the KNPC pavilion .After the tour, Dr. Dalal Al-Hadhoud gave a speech , lauded the students of the Environment Committee and indicated that the college is the first among the PAAET institutions to allocate an independent building for such a committee. She also commended the committee members’ sincere efforts including assigning a whole page of the PAAET website to display the committee’s environmental activities. The Dean thanked the sponsor companies and praised their efforts to support such events, which help a lot in upgrading environment awareness at the social level. After the Dean’s speech there was a show presented by the participating children who expressed their appreciation for the efforts made to protect the environment.

Refinery Operators Program “NVQ 21” On –Site Training, Launched OJT Division arranged a meeting with the trainees who successfully passed the theoretical training of refinery operators course ( NVQ 21 ) held during the period 7-3-07 and 8-4-08 at the Petroleum Training Center.
The meeting, organized on 23/3/2008 at HR Dept., aimed at referring the trainees to the operation departments of the KNPC refineries to have their six-month on -site training. The OJT Team urged the trainees to show commitment, abide by the regulations and do their best. Also, they received the Refinery Operators Manual that includes work-related instructions and regulations at operation units.
Distributing the trainees to the three refineries was based on a random draw, and those who complete their on-site training successfully will be recruited at KNPC refineries as refinery operators. After that, a training program on safety at refineries was organized in cooperation with the Technical Support Division. In that program that preceded the start of the on-site training, the trainees got acquainted with the HSE procedures related to their job.

SHU Hosts Health Awareness Program CHOLESTEROL..The Silent Killer Under the patronage of Mr. Ahmed Al-Jemaz, DMD – SHU, and in the presence of Mr. Farouk Al-Zanki, C&MD;DMDs and Mr. Fahad Al-Daihany, Manager, SHE Dept., the Medical Division at KNPC organized on Wednesday 30/4/2008 the health awareness program “CHOLESTEROL.. The Silent Killer” at SHU Refinery.
The program’s functions started with playing a film about hazards of high cholesterol levels, followed by the speech of Mr. Ahmed Al-Jemaz who hailed the achievements and distinguished activities of the Medical Division. Then, Mr. Fahad Al-Daihany gave a speech in which he emphasized the paramount importance of spreading the correct health awareness concepts among the employees for the sake of upgrading the public health and supporting the national economy of Kuwait.
Also, there was a draw and the winners from the audience were given gifts whereas The lecturers received presents and appreciation certificates. Towards the end, the Medical Products Exhibition, organized on the sidelines of the program, was inaugurated with participation of 11 medical companies which exhibited a wide range of the latest and most advanced devic es and drugs used for treating patients suffering heart diseases and cholesterol disorders. |
HR Dept., Honors Refinery Operation Technology Course Toppers In the presence of Mr. Fahad Fahad al-Ajmi DMD Finance and Administrative Affairs -Mr. Ahmed Al-Mudaf- Manager HRD and PAAET representatives the HR Dept held a gala to honor the topper graduates of the refinery operation technology course – 2007/2008 which was run under the OJT supervision.
The party started with a speech by Mr. Fahad Fahad al-Ajmi who emphasized KNPC interest in luring and developing the best human resources for working with the company. This urged the company to sign an agreement with PAAET and introduce the refinery operation technology course as one of the majors of the Technological Studies College to qualify trainees to join the KNPC workforce as refinery operators. In fact this perfectly conforms with the company strategy aiming at filling the corresponding job vacancies with national cadres.

Manpower & CD Division reviews Budget In line with yearly practice the Manpower & Career Development Division Human Resources Department touched in a presentation on the major items of the KNPC manpower budget for the year 2009-2010. During a meeting on April 30 2008 at the Head Office auditorium. The presentation revolved on the main items of the budget that involves all departments when there is need to fill in the manpower budget of said departments but this meeting focused on the Head Office and the Local Marketing Department. Attending during the meeting were Mr. Ahmed Al-Mudaf Mgr. HR Department and Mr. Waleed Al-Hamad- Assistant Manager HR Department. A similar presentation was made earlier reviewed at the Mina Al-Shuaiba and Mina Abdullah refineries. In her presentation Manpower & CD Division centered on the main practices for filling in the budget mainly the employment plan and any developments- the organization structures and the Kuwaitization process including review of rates of Kuwaitization in each and every department. This is in addition to the available and required grades and staff promotions. The presentation also included the basis and system approved for filling in the manpower budget. |
Clean Fuel Project Staff Celebrate Budget Approval The Clean Fuel Project staff celebrated approval of the Department budget by the KNPC Board of Directors at the Project Camp-MAB Refinery on 24/4/ 2008.
The celebration was attended by Mr. Hatem Al-Awadi DMD Projects- Mr. Sabah Al-Awadh Coordinator Corporate Planning- Mr. Jalal Shishtari Manager CFP- Mr. Mohd Faleh Al-Ajmi TL Finance and Administration CFP- Mr. Ali Lafi Al-Shammeri Senior Supervisor Finance and Administration CFP as well a crowd of staff working for the CFP Department. Also Mr. Basel Al-Dabbous TL Internal Communication represented the CCD.
The celebration started with an opening speech by Mr. Jalal Shishtari Manager CFP who congratulated staff members for approval of the CFP budget by the KNPC Board of Directors. He raised out the benefits that could reflect on the environment in general and on humans in particular after implementation of the project according to the highest international standards and specifications.
He urged all CFP staff to exert maximum efforts with the aim of serving the community and the environment with the aim of affirming the KNPC keenness on keeping away staff and the environment from any risks.
By end of the event gifts were distributed and all attendees were invited for the luncheon served on their honor. |
C&MD Annual HSE Award Scheme HSE Department organized on 5/5/2008 at Al-Durrah Ballroom –Kuwait Hilton Resort.its Annual celebration of the Chairman and Managing Director Awards for the best HSE performance for the year 2007/2008 within KNPC.
The ceremony started with a welcoming speech by Mr. Fahd Al-Daihany- Manager HSE who indicating that this celebration became an event that KNPC is totally committed to arrange every year with the aim of enhancing the competitive spirit and upgrading the HSE performance standard at the KNPC level.
On his part Mr. Farouk Al-Zanki C&MD lauded the event thanked the organizers and congratulated the employees honored for their distinctive HSE performance. He noted that this award scheme was designed to recognize the best among the best of achievers at all KNPC operating sites. He said that KNPC did achieve an overall excellent HSE performance in 2007/2008 and for this KNPC won awards from the British Safety Council BSC and the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents RoSPA- Uk. He added that KNPC policy and aspiration is aimed at recognizing and supporting dedicated performers at all levels.
In his speech on this occasion Mr. Asaad Al-Saad Deputy Chairman and DMD – MAA thanked Mr. Farouk Al-Zanki indicating that the celebration is a kind gesture from the Top Management to urge the employees to improve their HSE performance. KNPC takes part in 1st Special Needs Sports Festival KNPC participated on 28/3/2208 in the first sports festival for students with special needs. The event held at Dasman Model Bilingual School featured the participation of a lot of special needs schools including Al-Kharafi- Down and Handicapped Centers and Special Needs Model Nursery in addition to a large crowd of athletes with special needs.The festival witnessed a wide media coverage and attracted a large number of participants parents who lauded the event and KNPC sponsorship of the activities. After the contests and races all attended a party and received KNPC presents and gifts. At the end of the party medals were distributed to the winners amid great joy of their families.On her part Mrs. Basma Al-Mutawa Public Relations Manager at Dasman Model School thanked KNPC on supporting sponsoring and participating in that festival of special needs who are an integral part of our society that deserves all our care . She hailed the commendable efforts made by Mr. Wael Al-Munaifi during the races and distributing the gifts to the children . |
Extrapolating Industrial Investment Options in Oil Sector Springing from its belief in supporting and encouraging the local industrial sector- KNPC took part in the symposium that was arranged at the Chamber of Commerce & Industry under the patronage of Mr. Falah Al-Hajiri- Minister of Commerce & Industry.During the symposium Mr. Ahmad Al-Tabtabai Coordinator- Systems Development of the Commercial Department presented a work-paper which pointed out KNPC role in activating the approved KPC mechanism and the progress achieved until now based on the following:
-KNPC implementation of a project related to measuring the satisfaction of beneficiaries of KPC mechanism.
-Check the scope of application of the mechanism by the concerned Company departments.
-Implementation of the partnership program with the national companies and plants based on the following pivots:
- Establishing a service center for the local and foreign plants and companies.
-Establishing a consultancy center including representatives of national companies and plants.
-Issue of periodical portal by the Company on the national companies and plants.
-Developing partnership and quality culture among KNPC employees while dealing with the national companies and plants.
The symposium activities included two working sessions for discussing two pivots:
•First on extrapolating the investment opportunities within the oil sector. This included the following:
-Identifying the projects of oil organizations and companies related to the basic products.
-Ways of to have access to facilities from the petrochemicals sector and national plants.
-The opportunities available to be partners of the private / industrial sector and allow it to take part in the current and upcoming oil projects. |
Corporate Planning Dept., Updates LP Model In the presence of Mr. Bakhit Al-Rashidi DMD Planning & Local Marketing and Mr. Khaled Al-Mushaileh- Manager Corporate Planning- the attendance certificates were distributed to the participants from KPC- IM KNPC refineries -CFP- SCO and STOT who took part in the Site Acceptance Test workshop SAT arranged by Corporate Planning Department for the updated LP Model by Fluor Corporation-PMC. This LP model is planned to be used after commissioning CFP to prepare optimized Operating/Budget plans that maximize KNPC refining margin. Additionally per usual practice- it will be used to perform economic evaluation studies and prepare Five Year Plans which define the company long-term operating strategy starting by next cycle in 2009/2010 – 2013/2014.As part of CFP this LP Model update was aimed to reflect the major refineries configuration changes that will take place within the scope of CFP upgrading/adding new process units.This is mandatory to ensure accurate forecast of KNPC refineries production capabilities post CFP. This fresh update also comprises the new refinery and the Clean Fuel Project CFP in one model which allows greater flexibility in producing plans.Mr. Bakhit Al-Rashidi and Mr. Khaled Al-Mushaileh took this opportunity to express the company appreciation and thankfulness to all personnel who actively participated in successfully accomplishing this work especially those who reviewed the model changes and enhanced its precision.This step is considered a major milestone to ensure coordination continuity among CP-refineries and KPC-IM as performed currently. Moreover this LP Model will be utilized by Supply Chain Optimization SCO in the future. |
KNPC, Accelerate Energy Sign LNG Import Contract KNPC and US Accelerate Energy Company signed on 31/3/2008 a contract to qualify and prepare the South Pier – MAA so as to support the liquefied natural gas import operations.The USD 150 million contract was signed by both Mr. Asaad Al-Saad Deputy Chairman and DMD – MAA and Mr. Edward Scott Vice President for Development Sector - Accelerate Energy Company in the presence of Mr. Ali Abdullah Manager Commercial Dept.- Mr. Ibrahim Al-Awadi-TL Project Coordination – Group A in addition to the project work team members.This move came in response to the rising demand of gas and other energy sources by the Ministry of Electricity during summer time as the current volume of gas production in Kuwaiti does not meet the minimum needs of the power generating sector.
KPC had earlier reviewed the available options for providing the required fuel for power plants taking into consideration importing LNG as one of its recommended alternatives. As a result KPC assigned KNPC with the task of qualifying and developing the South Pier – MAA to be able to support the import operations of harboring unloading LNG tankers EBRV ships and re-processing the shipment to be fed into network.The project is scheduled to complete by April 2009 and to start receiving LNG tankers by May 2009. |
NVQ Training Course for Assessors in London In line with plans to improve staff performance KNPC envoys supervisors of the Operations Department for training overseas as assessors of refinery operators in the process units within the frame work of the National Vocational Qualification – NVQ Program. According to the program employees are trained by international assessors affiliated to a British specialized company.
The training course organized at Cumberland Hotel- London in April was inaugurated with a speech by NVQ Trainer Engr. Danny Wright who mentioned that this course is held under the title: A1 Assessor Award for the third level assessors supervisors and over. He added the course will qualify trainees to obtain an accredited international certificate which enables them to work as assessors in world refineries. Training is carried out according to the latest techniques employed by the advanced industrial states with the aim of upgrading the efficiency and enhancing the skills of the trainees.Commenting on selecting supervisors to attend such courses Engr. Wright said that supervisors are very experienced not less than twenty years and this enables them of understanding and assimilating the training programs. Moreover they know very well the best ways to deal with their employees and assess their performance. These are an asset for the oil industry due to their skills that help to minimize casualties and loss of equipment within the refineries besides being highly productive at the work place.
Evaluating the course trainees Engr. Danny Wright said that they are brilliant and attentive individuals who interact discuss and collaborate with the lecturers and with each other to complete the training stages. They are determined to upgrade their skills and enhance the quality of operations.
The group of employees attending the course included the following :
MAB Refinery : Fahd Al-Dosari-Ahmed Al-Kandari and Waleed Al-Taweel.
SHU Refiner : Ahmed Al-Qabandi- Eissa Al-Rashidi and Umran Al-Rashid.On their part the trainees praised the course which focused on the training techniques needed to assess refinery operators at the processing units rectify any malpractices. Nevertheless the trainees called for the course term only 5 days to be at least a couple of weeks. |
KNPC participates in 11th Job Opportunities Fair KNPC took part in the 11th Job Opportunities Fair held during 7-9/4/2008 at Farouk Barghash Al-Mutairi Hall- Petroleum & Engineering College – Kuwait University.The fair organized by the Engineering Training & Graduates Centre - Petroleum & Engineering College, was inaugurated by Mr. Rasheed Al-Tabtabae Undersecretary Ministry of Commerce and Industry in the presence of Professor Adam Al-Mulla- Assistant Dean for Career Planning & Development in addition to the teaching board at the college and the students interested in visiting the fair to be acquainted with the job opportunities offered by the participating companies.
Upon arrival to the KNPC pavilion Mr. Rasheed Al-Tabtabae was received by Mr. Ahmad Al-Fares and Mr. Ali Al-Muhana- HRD Employment Division staff in addition to Corp.Comm. team who elaborated on the job opportunities offered by KNPC for the university graduates in general and the Petroleum & Engineering College graduates in particular.
Mr. Al-Tabtabae indicated that the fair is a good opportunity for the undergraduates to closely identify the labor market requirements through the fruitful dialogue with the participating companies whether public or private and be more familiar with the advantages and privileges which they allow to their employees. He also commended the bright image of all the participants including the private and public sector companies as well as the academic organizations that educate the human cadres capable of coping with the labor market requirements. He expressed his appreciation to all the participating companies over their support for the fresh graduates.On his part Professor Adam Al-Mulla Assistant Dean for Career Planning & Development pointed out that the fair helped a lot in stressing the private and public sector interest in Kuwait University students and graduates and how to be qualified to benefit from the available job opportunities. |
Al-Zanki Honors Hala February Participants In a gala held at KNPC Head Office the Chairman and Managing Director Mr. Farouk Al-Zanki honored on 10/4/2008 KNPC employees who participated in the opening ceremony of Hala February.The event was attended by Mr. Asaad Al-Saad Deputy Chairman and DMD – MAA Mr. Fahad Fahad Al-Ajmi DMD for Finance and Administration Affairs Mr. Hatem Al-Al-Awadi DMD for Projects Mr. Mohamed Mansour Al-Ajmi Manager Corporate Communications Dept.- in addition to the honored employees.
In a brief speech Mr. Farouk Al-Zanki commended the honored employees and thanked them on the efforts they made in participation with the private and public organizations during the celebrations of Kuwait national days despite the unfavorable weather conditions on the festival opening day.On his part Mr. Mohamed Mansour Al-Ajmi thanked top management officials on being keen to attend the gala ceremony adding that the presence of the Chairman and the DMDs usher an act of honoring that constellation of employees who took part in Kuwait national celebrations. Towards the end Mr. Farouk Al-Zanki distributed the recognition certificates and gifts to the 24 employees who represented the company during the national celebrations. |
KNPC Takes Part in Economy Makers, Job Opportunities Expo KNPC participated in the 13th Economy Makers and Job Opportunities Expo that was organized during 4-6/3/2008 at the Administrative Sciences College - Kuwait University in Shuwaikh.The Expo was inaugurated by the Deputy Premier and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Mr. Faisal Al-Hajji who stressed that such fairs could be a chance to provide youth with suitable job opportunities in different sectors through the offers provided by the participant companies besides getting an idea about the privileges offered by companies to their employees.He said there is no difference between working for the private or public sectors adding that the private sector privileges are much better than those offered by the public sector. Al-Hajji noted that Kuwait economy must not rely solely on the public sector but it should be based on all different sectors.Later accompanied by the Administrative Sciences College Dean and officials- the Deputy Premier and the Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs toured the expo and took note of the job opportunities provided by the participating companies.At the KPC pavilion- KNPC was represented by Mr. Nabil Al-Bader TL- External Comm.and Mr. Wael Al-Munaifi Specialist External Comm.. The KNPC activities were reviewed in addition to identifying the requirements needed for recruitment in the oil sector. A discussion was also conducted on the recruitment mechanism and procedures adopted by KNPC in this regard. During the discussions the qualifications required for the applicants and the benefits enjoyed by oil sector employees were also raised. |
New Batch of NVQ Program Trainees Graduate KNPC celebrated the graduation of a new batch of 230 refinery operators who completed the National Vocational Quality program NVQ - second and third level. The celebration arranged at Kuwait Hilton Hotel on 27/3/2008 started with a speech by Mr. Farouk Al-Zanki Chairman & M.D who expressed the top management and his own pride over the brilliant scores achieved by this batch of refinery operators and which ended with obtaining the British NVQ certificate which allows its holder to work at any refinery all over the world.In the speech delivered on his behalf by Mr. Ahmad Al-Jemaz DMD Shuaiba Refinery Mr. Al-Zanki said seeing this large number of operators having such prestigious certificate after their distinction in that international program reflects the success of the training policy adopted by KNPC in cooperation with KPC.He also mentioned that KNPC spares no effort to provide its new as well as old employees with all available training and development opportunities because this is the only way to consolidate the company policy and strategy and to upgrade and promote the skills needed by staff members to run a successful business Mr. Mubarak Al-Shamari- Supervisor- Operations -MAB delivered a speech on behalf of his colleagues operations- staff- highlighting the nature of the vocational qualification program and its importance in developing and evaluating the technical performance of the refinery operators. He also said that the program was set in line with shift working requirements.
He added that although the program was applied just short time ago- yet it helped make a qualitative leap in training and development of operators which resulted in smooth- accurate and safe working environment. On the other hand- the program reflects the company- more credible profile before its clients.
Mr. Sami Malallah- Manager Operations- MAB pointed out that the NVQ program is a technical training program for the refinery operators to keep up with the work needs and requirements of the shift system. The program provides the employee with the best learning and training modes at the workplace. He added that the company intends in near future to give the opportunity to the largest number of trainees to develop the performance of refinery operators and upgrade their qualifications to the international standard.At the end of the celebration the graduates received appreciation awards certificates and souvenirs and all the attendants were invited to the luncheon served on this occasion. |
Medical Division – MAA Organizes Health Day on Work-Related Stress In the course of arranging health awareness programs at KNPC the Medical Division – MAA organized on 19/3/2008 a health day on work-related stress in the presence of Mr. Asaad Al-Saad- Deputy Chairman and DMD – MAA in addition to a big crowd of KNPC employees. Due to the great success of the event reflected in the extraordinarily large audience- it was presented again on 1/4/2008 at the Head Office to allow even larger number of employees to benefit from the extremely important topic highlighted according to the health awareness program.
The first event hosted by MAA Refinery- started with a speech by Mr. Asaad Al-Saad- Deputy Chairman and DMD – MAA who welcomed the attendees and thanked the SHE Medical Division staff for the extensive efforts which they made to arrange and execute such programs that demonstrates the company strategy of enhancing its employees safety and health through the application of many programs and projects starting from the regular medical check-up to the vocational health system that provides medical care for staff from recruitment until retirement. That strategy did not overlook the informative aspect of boosting public health principles which were obviously reflected through the health awareness program. Mr. Al-Saad added that the importance of the work-related stress campaign lies in highlighting one of the major causes of under-performance and low individual productivity. It also reflects the transparency level adopted in addressing the health problems related to the nature of work within the industrial facilities where the employees are subject to various modes of stress and tension which would inevitably end up in adverse impacts in case of being handled unwisely or untimely.
On the other hand Mr. Fahad Al-Dihani- Manager SHE Dept. and Mr. Mohamed Mansour Al-Ajmi- Manager CCD launched the functions of the health day arranged at the Auditorium-Head Office. The activities of the two events included lectures presented by Dr. Adel Al-Zaed Psychology Consultant who identified the stress symptoms and impacts on work indicating their causes and how to treat them. He also emphasized the fact that the first step for healing is to correctly diagnose the case- then comes the second stage of looking for the right remedy. He also talked about the link between stress and lethal diseases stressing the importance of handling stresses even before accumulating through alleviation practices including different hobbies. |
KNPC Sponsors Pituitary Gland Disorders Conference Springing from KNPC vision which is totally committed to supporting thwe NGO and in cooperation and coordination with the Medical Division-SHE KNPC sponsored the medical conference organized by the Kuwait Society for Endocrinology affiliated to Kuwait Medical Association during 16-15-2008 at the Association headquarter in Jabriya.
The conference was dedicated for discussing the pituitary gland disorders and was resided by Dr. Abdul Nasser Al-Othman- Head of Endocrinology Unit-Sabah Hospital who praised KNPC efforts to support such important activities.
Commenting on the aims of the conference Dr. Zaidan Al-Mazaidi Head of Pediatric Endocrinology Unit-Sabah Hospital- Chairman of the Society and Chairman of the Conference Scientific Committee- indicated that there are many diseases related to the pituitary gland which is described as the Body Maestro because it controls the other glands and regulates body fluids and minerals in addition to influencing children growth. Due to the medical importance of the endocrine glands the Society decided to organize four conferences every year to discuss all disorders of these glands and to exchange expertise and knowledge regarding diagnosis and curing such disorders.
Dr. Zaidan Al-Mazidi also hailed KNPC’s participation in the conference emphasizing the Company honorable record of cooperation with the Society noting that KNPC sponsored and participated in similar medical conferences held before. He added that KNPC participation in the conference functions was not limited to financial support but it also included the presence of the company Medical Division team who provided the conferees with some medical services such as blood glucose- hemoglobin and Blood Pressure testing in addition to KNPC stand in the lobby which contained a valuable set of publications on the health awareness campaigns launched by company on cancer liver and digestive system diseases. |
Tier- III Drill at the New Oil Pier –MAA Acting upon its corporate responsibility and commitment to the safety of its employees- society- environment and installations- KNPC is keen on making all efforts to apply the best safety standards procedures and practices for all processes designs and constructions at all its facilities. To achieve this strategic target KNPC prepared the Major Incident Procedure Plan MIPP for responding to any emergency and identifying the roles of the individuals.
Within the framework of this plan KNPC organized on 3/4/2008 a Tier- III Drill at the New Oil Pier –MAA . The drill was exercised by the KNPC refineries and KOC support and oil spill response teams in addition to Kuwait Municipality Emergency Teams and in presence of K- EPA observers.
The drill scenario prepared by SHE involved a rupture of the Eocene crude line and spillage of 600 Tons of oil into the sea with some of this quantity escaping towards the shore. The exercise included containing and recovering the spilled oil and cleaning the beaches to minimize the ill environmental impacts. As the spill was large and required large and organized resources the international organization OSRL was called for providing technical support.
