The 13th Kuwaiti-Japanese symposium was held
during 17-18/1/2012 at Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR), in the
presence of Mr. Ahmad Al-Jemaz, DMD, SHU and Dr. Naji Al-Mutairi, General
Director of the institute, in addition to a delegation from (Japan Cooperation
Center,Petroleum) and (Japan Petroleum Institute).
The symposium was opened by a speech by Mr. Ahmad
Al-Jemaz who referred to the importance of this event in realizing continuous
advance in the research fields related to the development of oil sector in
Kuwait. He stated that the increasing demand on the high quality oil
derivatives made the application of modern technologies for improving the heavy
crude oil, updating the catalyst and producing clean fuel represents a priority
to KNPC. Al-Jemaz added that along with cooperation between KNPC and KISR, this
symposium clearly signifies the strong relations of both Japanese companies
JCCP and JPI, hoping that the fruitful discussions would result in more
developments for the Kuwaiti oil sector.
In his speech, Dr. Naji Al-Mutairi said that the
symposium program for this year includes a balance mix of scientific papers,
scientific information and new technologies, in addition to the industrial
experience, which makes it a perfect blend for a scientific platform through
which KNPC engineers, Japanese scientists and KISR researchers can exchange
ideas, experience and information to be able to better understand different
cases related to the development of catalysts, heavy crude oil and the production
of clean fuel.
The first Secretary of Japan Embassy gave a
speech through which he thanked Kuwait Government and its citizens for all the
help extended during the recent mishap of the nuclear reactor leak in Japan. He
also thanked KISR & KNPC for carrying forward strategic collaboration by
renewing the partnership contract with JPI & JCCP established a decade ago.
On the other hand, Professor. Toshi Heidi,
President of JPI delegation and Mr. Hideki Nomura, JCCP General Manager
expressed the essential role of this seminar for enhancing the cooperation
between Kuwait and Japan through the exchange of information and ideas on the
recent developments of the petroleum refining operations.
It is worth mentioning that KNPC was represented
by MAA and MAB and presented two papers, the first one was presented by Eng.
Hussein Said, SR. Process Engr.-MAA on the challenges faced MAA refinery for
achieving the best economic output for HCR Unit of MAA, by obtaining the
highest rates of distillates and extending the running age of the catalysts by
exchanging the internal parts of reactors. The second paper was presented by
Mr. Ahmad Al Baghli, Engr. Sr. Process-MAB on benefits of ammonia injection in
HCR unit of MAB.
Mr. Singhal R & T engineer has chaired the
first session of the symposium which covered three papers. At the end of the
symposium, a session was held for replying the attendees inquiries, chaired by
KISR with the membership of the Japanese side and KNPC which was represented by
Mr. Hussein Said.
